A small loop or tab that helps the wearer pull on a shoe or boot.
On a pull-on boot such as the Chelsea boot, the tab takes the strain of pulling the boot on. R.M.Williams fits its elastic-sided boots with woven loops it calls tugs, pressed into position at the front and back of the ankle and stitched between the leather upper and the lining. The house says the tugs spread the strain and keep the boot’s shape, and its care guide asks wearers to let them take the strain when pulling the boots on. Crockett & Jones pairs pull tabs with speed hooks, for convenience, on some of its lace-up Derby boots.
