Role & Responsibilities
- Execute hand and machine polishing of precious metals and finished jewellery to meet haute-joaillerie surface and gloss specifications.
- Perform micrometric finishing on metal surfaces and settings, removing burrs and marks while preserving sharp edges and intended textures.
- Inspect components and finished pieces under loupe or stereo microscope to verify surface quality, dimensional tolerances and absence of defects.
- Operate and maintain polishing equipment (micro-motors, buffing wheels, brushes) and polishing consumables, ensuring cleanliness and calibration.
- Collaborate closely with gem-setters, engravers and quality-control teams to resolve finishing issues and deliver pieces that meet technical drawings and sample approvals.
- Maintain accurate production records, report non-conformities, and contribute to continuous improvement of finishing techniques and workshop processes.
- Adhere to workshop health, safety and chemical-handling procedures; manage polishing compounds and waste in compliance with atelier rules.
Qualifications
- Vocational qualification in jewellery-making, metalwork or a related craft (e.g., CAP/BEP in jewellery or equivalent apprenticeship) or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Minimum three years' experience in polishing or finishing jewellery or fine metalwork within a luxury or high-jewellery atelier.
- Exceptional manual dexterity, sustained fine-motor control and proven ability to work at micro scale under magnification.
- Solid understanding of precious metals (gold alloys, platinum) and finishing processes; familiarity with finishes such as high gloss, satin and matt.
