Role & Responsibilities

  • Inspect and certify coloured gemstones incoming to the workshop and from suppliers, assessing color, clarity, cut, treatment status and overall conformity with jewelry specifications.
  • Perform gemological testing using microscope, refractometer, spectroscope, polariscope, dichroscope and 10× loupe; document findings and produce formal gemological reports.
  • Ensure traceability and quality-control documentation for each lot of stones; maintain accurate inventory records and labeling.
  • Coordinate closely with sourcing/procurement, design and workshop teams to approve stones for production and resolve non-conformities or supplier disputes.
  • Establish and apply internal quality standards and acceptance criteria for coloured gemstones; recommend corrective actions and supplier remediation when necessary.
  • Support incoming goods inspections, incoming/outgoing packaging controls and occasional on-site verifications at supplier locations or trade events.

Qualifications

  • Diploma or formal training in gemology or equivalent technical jewellery qualification (e.g., GIA, FGA or comparable credential) or demonstrable equivalent experience.
  • Proven practical experience with identification and grading of coloured gemstones and awareness of common treatments and enhancements.
  • Strong understanding of quality-control processes, traceability and certification in a high-jewellery environment.
  • Impeccable attention to detail, methodical record-keeping and a rigorous approach to sample testing and reporting.
  • Professional integrity and the ability to liaise with suppliers and internal stakeholders under confidentiality constraints.
