About Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger, founded in 1985, is a globally recognized premium lifestyle brand celebrated for translating classic American cool into modern, inclusive design. As an employer, the company offers a dynamic international environment where creativity, commercial excellence, and cultural relevance meet. Teams contribute to collections, retail experiences, digital innovation, and brand storytelling that resonate across generations and markets. With the support of PVH Corp., Tommy Hilfiger fosters collaboration, entrepreneurial thinking, and professional growth, while advancing commitments to sustainability, diversity, and responsible fashion. It seeks talent energized by bold ideas, consumer connection, and the enduring appeal of iconic style.

Tommy Hilfiger is seeking a Color Specialist to manage color approvals, supplier communication and day-to-day color workflows, with defined Color Librarian responsibilities for Amsterdam / Global HQ scope. The role applies visual and instrumental color evaluation, maintains approval records and color libraries, and collaborates with internal teams and suppliers; it is an individual-contributor position with no formal people-management responsibility.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Manage assigned color submissions—including Lab Dips, Strike-offs, Salesman Samples, Bulk and other applicable submissions—through approval workflows; ensure suppliers use official color standards and references and follow agreed timelines, documentation requirements and escalation routes.
  • Apply established color standards, tolerances and guidelines to routine approval decisions within the assigned scope; escalate commercial exceptions, unfamiliar assignments and complex or unusual color issues as needed.
  • Evaluate color visually and through instrumental measurement, analyze straightforward issues, select appropriate solutions using established methods, and ensure decisions are accurate, consistent and documented.
  • Manage regular supplier communication for assigned categories or regions, provide clear and timely feedback, follow up on corrections, and improve submission completeness, image quality and consistent use of the global color process.
  • Manage assigned DMIX workflows and related PLM information; resolve straightforward missing-job, duplicate-job and data issues within established processes, and maintain accurate approval history, status and traceability.
  • Build productive working relationships with Design, Product Development, Raw Materials, Quality, Sourcing, regional teams and suppliers to resolve routine approval matters and communicate implications for timing, quality or color feasibility.
  • Manage immediate priorities independently across changing seasonal demands within agreed objectives; adapt plans and methods as business needs, systems or processes evolve, anticipate practical impacts on timelines and stakeholders, flag capacity or dependency risks early, propose sequencing options, and align material trade-offs with the Senior Color Manager or relevant decision owner while maintaining quality and realistic commitments.
  • Review recurring color approval issues and supplier KPI trends using established methods; recommend practical improvements to supplier follow-up, data quality, system use and working methods, and support updates to checklists and standard operating procedures.
  • Support digital color adoption, standardization and supplier capability activities; contribute to training or process updates and assist less-experienced colleagues with defined processes or tasks, without formal people-management responsibility.
  • For Amsterdam / Global HQ scope, maintain the PLM Corporate Color Library and physical Color Lab, including color standards, seasonal setup, naming and codes, data accuracy, duplicate checks and library clean-up; support reference searches and early color feasibility; and translate WGSN forecasts, swatches and selected color cards into suitable Archroma, Pantone or CSI standards using visual and spectral evaluation, escalating complex or unclear cases as needed.

Qualifications

  • Typically 2–4 years of related experience following a relevant university or engineering degree, or 5–8 years with a relevant post-secondary qualification, in textile/apparel color development, raw materials, dyeing, color quality, product development or a related field.
  • Practical experience with color approval, supplier communication and/or textile production in a global or multi-supplier environment.
  • Practical knowledge of laboratory dyeing processes, official color standards, production color control and digital color approval workflows.
  • For Amsterdam / Global HQ scope, experience with color libraries, physical standards, PLM color data, routine color matching or color translation is advantageous.
  • Working knowledge of color theory, visual and instrumental color evaluation, light sources, tolerances, spectral data and color consistency.
  • Practical experience with Datacolor/X-Rite, spectrophotometers and digital color management systems.
  • Working proficiency with DMIX, PLM or similar systems, with disciplined use of digital records and approval history.
  • Ability to independently evaluate and resolve straightforward color or process issues using established standards and methods, with sound judgment about when escalation is needed.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to build productive working relationships with internal teams and suppliers and gain cooperation on day-to-day execution.
  • Ability to plan and prioritize immediate workload effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment; adapt to evolving priorities and revised ways of working, anticipate practical impacts, raise capacity or dependency constraints early, and maintain quality and realistic commitments.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, with the ability to connect visual and digital color information and, for Amsterdam / Global HQ scope, support standard matching, library and reference activities.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Textile Chemistry, Materials Science, Fashion, Color Science or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
