Manual Machinist position at Tiffany & Co. in Cumberland, United States. Operate precision equipment including Hardinge lathes and Bridgeport mills.
Role & Responsibilities
- Set up and operate various machines including Bridgeport Mills, Hardinge Lathes, surface grinders, and tool grinders to execute precision machining operations
- Ensure all machined components meet blueprint specifications using precision measuring equipment such as micrometers, vernier calipers, height gauges, bore gauges, comparators, and vision systems
- Select appropriate tooling and cutters for each machining operation and application
- Read and interpret blueprints and sketches, and receive verbal instructions to determine required machining procedures
- Design, fabricate, and repair fixtures and tooling for production runs and short-run jobs
- Produce quality surface finishes and maintain tight tolerances in accordance with specifications
- Troubleshoot technical issues and collaborate with engineering teams on research and development projects
- Inspect first-run pieces and perform spot checks on succeeding components for conformance to specifications
- Maintain flexibility to adapt to varying production requirements and support additional assigned duties
Qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of related machining experience or equivalent combination of technical education and hands-on experience
- Technical school diploma or vocational training in machining or a related field
- Proficiency in reading and interpreting technical blueprints, work orders, safety protocols, and maintenance instructions
- Competency in fundamental mathematical concepts including plane geometry, solid geometry, and trigonometry
- Demonstrated ability to solve practical problems using analytical and common-sense approaches
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify and address discrepancies
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with technical staff and engineering teams
- Willingness to work overtime as operational demands require
- Sound judgment in critical thinking and problem-solving with the ability to articulate decisions through written and verbal communication
Skills
Experience
Minimum 5 years of demonstrated experience in precision machining, manual machine tool operation, or a closely related manufacturing role. Experience with Hardinge lathes, Bridgeport mills, and precision grinding equipment is strongly preferred. Hands-on background in fixture design, tooling development, and blueprint interpretation is essential. Proven ability to work effectively in a detailed, quality-focused manufacturing environment is required.
Education
Technical school diploma or vocational certification in machining, tool and die making, or a related precision manufacturing discipline. Equivalent professional experience in lieu of formal technical education may be considered.
