About Tiffany & Co.

Tiffany & Co. is a globally recognised luxury jeweller renowned for exceptional craftsmanship, design excellence and high‑precision manufacture. The role sits within the Jewelry Development & Innovation Workshop (JDIW) in New York and is part of the broader LVMH group, offering access to maison-level resources while preserving an artisanal, design‑led R&D environment.

Tiffany & Co. (New York) seeks a CNC Machinist – CAM Programmer to lead 5‑axis CAM programming and precision jewelry machining at the JDIW.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Own the end‑to‑end CAM programming and CNC machining workflow: interpret CAD, develop optimized toolpaths, post‑process G‑code, produce setup documentation, and deliver finished inspected parts.
  • Program and operate the full JDIW machining cell (simultaneous 5‑axis mills and a live‑tooling CNC lathe), selecting appropriate machines and strategies for each geometry and material.
  • Apply micro‑machining and high‑speed machining techniques (trochoidal milling, constant chip‑load toolpaths) to maximize material efficiency, tool life and surface quality for miniature, high‑tolerance components.
  • Perform routine part inspection with precision instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges) and ensure dimensional conformity with strong emphasis on metal recovery and scrap control.
  • Conduct machine maintenance, calibration and tooling changes to sustain equipment performance and uptime.
  • Proactively manage project queues, communicate risks and schedule impacts early, and meet delivery requirements in a fast‑paced R&D environment.
  • Participate in design reviews and collaborate with Design, JDIW and Manufacturing to resolve manufacturability issues and define repeatable production strategies.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentoring on CAM strategies, machining techniques and machine maintenance to Engineers, Operators and Model Makers.
  • Contribute to CRD work instructions, timing estimates, costing and capacity planning; support internal and external suppliers on setup and technical standards.
  • Use enterprise systems and adhere to departmental controls (Microsoft Office/365, Tiffany intranet, Kronos, JDE); comply with inventory and security protocols for precious metals.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years hands‑on experience in precision CNC machining with demonstrable ownership of CAM programming (not solely machine operation).
  • Expert‑level proficiency in Mastercam (strongly preferred) or an equivalent professional CAM platform with proven simultaneous 5‑axis programming experience on small, intricate parts.
  • Demonstrated micro‑machining expertise: precision tooling selection, micro‑scale chip‑load management, miniature workholding strategies and surface‑finish control at tight tolerances.
  • Proven application of high‑speed machining (HSM) strategies (trochoidal/constant‑engagement toolpaths) to improve tool life and part quality.
  • Strong CAD competency, SolidWorks strongly preferred; ability to translate CAD into robust CAM strategies and fixtures.
  • Exceptional attention to detail, commitment to material efficiency and the ability to independently deliver CAM‑to‑part in a prototyping or low‑volume, high‑complexity environment.
  • Demonstrated engineering‑led problem solving and proactive manufacturability assessment across design and production stages.
  • Preferred: degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Manufacturing Technology or equivalent professional experience; multi‑industry background (jewelry, watchmaking, aerospace, medical device, automotive) and familiarity with additional CAM platforms (Fusion 360 CAM, hyperMILL, NX CAM, Esprit, GibbsCAM, SolidCAM).
