Tiffany & Co. seeks a Casting Process Engineer in Cumberland to lead new product integration and casting optimization for precious metal jewelry manufacturing.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead casting design validation by analyzing casting simulation data and physical trial casting results to identify and mitigate potential defects including porosity, cracking, cold shuts, and incomplete fills
- Utilize advanced casting simulation software to evaluate variables impacting casting quality, reduce scrap rates, and predict solidification behavior and shrinkage compensation
- Work collaboratively with CAD developers and manufacturing engineering teams to iterate on casting designs, balancing manufacturability, mechanical properties, and aesthetic requirements
- Manage trial casting activities by coordinating work orders, scheduling test runs, and defining acceptance criteria for prototype castings; conduct hands-on evaluation including dimensional inspections and non-destructive testing (NDT)
- Apply lean manufacturing and quality methodologies to identify inefficiencies and sources of casting defects early in the NPI process; implement data-driven corrective actions to enhance yield and process robustness
- Monitor process metrics during ramp-up phases and drive continuous improvement initiatives, ensuring sustainable quality performance and timely communication of findings to stakeholders
- Develop comprehensive casting documentation packages including simulation results, sprue/gating CAD models, validated process parameters, and recommended SOP inputs to facilitate seamless production handoff
- Research and evaluate emerging casting technologies, materials, and advanced methods such as additive manufacturing for mold creation and real-time process monitoring sensors to enhance competitiveness
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or related discipline; or equivalent hands-on experience in casting process development within the jewelry industry
- Strong proficiency in Root Cause Analysis and complex problem-solving methodologies applied to casting process challenges
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced New Product Integration (NPI) environment with strong organizational and time management skills
- Solid understanding of metallurgical fundamentals relevant to precious metals
- Competency in hands-on inspections and quality evaluation of cast parts
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Proficiency in statistical analysis and process control techniques
- Excellent written, verbal, and presentation communication skills for cross-functional collaboration
Skills
Experience
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in casting process development, NPI environments, or jewelry manufacturing. Hands-on experience with simulation software relevant to manufacturing, direct involvement in investment casting processes, and knowledge of modern jewelry manufacturing techniques are highly valued.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required. Equivalent hands-on experience in casting process development within the jewelry industry may substitute for formal degree requirements.
