About The RealReal

The RealReal is a US luxury consignment marketplace founded in 2011. It sells pre-owned fashion, jewelry, watches, art and home furnishings through its website and stores. Its teams authenticate, price and photograph goods before they go on sale.

The Customer Experience Associate is the first point of contact for clients, providing education on The RealReal’s mission and services and a warm, personalized shopping experience. The role supports client services and store operations while handling luxury merchandise with care; it is seasonal and pays an expected $23.00 hourly, with starting pay dependent on location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal parity.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Greet clients and direct them to the appropriate area to provide a consistent, outstanding experience and resolve their needs promptly.
  • Support in-store client services, including returns and consignment drop-offs.
  • Assist customers while shopping by listening, connecting with them, and making recommendations.
  • Use active listening to identify and resolve customer and consignor relations issues accurately.
  • Support operational functions as needed, such as customer transfers.
  • Handle multiple time-sensitive situations while remaining calm and composed, demonstrating a can-do attitude.
  • Work reliably and responsibly alongside cross-functional teams.
  • Handle in-store luxury items—including jewelry, watches, home and art pieces, and consignor items—with elevated care and concern.
  • Maintain brand standards, including attention to personal appearance and written and verbal communication.
  • Remain objective when addressing client issues and determine the best solution.
  • Ask questions to understand situations rather than make assumptions; remain open to feedback and apply it quickly, staying future-focused in adverse situations.
  • Recognize when assistance is needed to prevent workload delays and proactively manage personal stress.

Qualifications

  • At least 1–2 years of work experience; luxury experience preferred.
  • Strong people orientation and entrepreneurial spirit.
  • Self-motivated and competitive.
  • Ability to master multiple technical devices and systems.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, listen thoroughly, and respond quickly and accurately.
  • Strong attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills.
  • Desire to work with people and a strong understanding of excellence in customer service.
  • Professional appearance, communication, and demeanor.
  • Basic understanding of luxury brands and artists.
  • Commitment and curiosity regarding retail fashion, fine jewelry and watches, fine art, and home.
  • Ability to lift and move merchandise weighing up to 25 lbs.
  • Flexible schedule with variable shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.
