Kate Spade New York is seeking a Senior Product Development Specialist to support the Senior Product Development Manager and team in delivering quality products on schedule. The role oversees development calendars, sampling, vendor communication, costing, and quality control; it is full-time and hybrid, with a base pay range of $100,000–$115,000 annually.
Role & Responsibilities
- Follow calendar milestone dates for development handovers and receipt of pass and market samples.
- Collaborate with design, merchandising, quality control, customs specialists, and production to ensure all teams adhere to schedules.
- Maintain trackers with current sample status, costing, comments, and communications information.
- Review specifications at turnover to ensure designs align with the price and cost model; recommend adjustments as needed to meet cost and quality targets.
- Ensure specifications are sent to vendors according to schedule.
- Manage the sampling process by tracking and expediting all pass and market samples.
- Participate in sample review meetings and resolve costing issues as needed.
- Review and communicate all design changes and quality control comments to vendors on pass and market samples.
- Proofread and confirm product profile sheets, packaging information, and special call-outs.
- Maintain an accurate library of pass, market, and approval samples.
- Negotiate costs to meet target margin goals while preserving design and quality integrity.
- Update and maintain corporate systems to ensure cost integrity.
- Support the Senior Product Development Manager by reviewing design specifications, documenting issues in trackers, and communicating details to the quality control team.
- Perform quality control on pass and market samples for form, fit, and functionality.
- Follow up on all resubmitted samples within the specified timeline.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of the retail and wholesale industries; jewelry processes preferred.
- Experience working with overseas suppliers, including in China, Vietnam, and India.
- Knowledge of international tariffs and duty rates.
- Knowledge of costing models, including retail versus wholesale, markups, and margins.
- University degree or equivalent.
- Familiarity with design specifications.
- At least 5 years of product development experience in jewelry manufacturing.
- High proficiency in MS Excel.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to handle challenging situations comfortably and effectively.
- Results-oriented and highly detail-conscious.
- Effective time management to prioritize multiple projects and meet deadlines.
- Flexible, adaptable, reliable, and able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
