Coach seeks Senior Product Developer in Dongguan to lead handbag product development, design intent execution, and cross-functional collaboration.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams—including designers, merchandising, marketing, logistics, quality, and service partners—to execute the (Re)Loved product pipeline seamlessly
  • Evaluate and grade incoming takeback handbags, assigning condition ratings (A–C) based on standardized damage and wear criteria; advise designers on appropriate product categories
  • Locate accurate historical style information and material matrices from internal systems; identify and match available materials in warehouse inventory against design specifications
  • Apply in-depth handbag construction knowledge to determine repair, modification, and enhancement feasibility; advise on component integration and structural integrity during reconditioning
  • Interpret core design intent, propose aesthetic updates, and ensure final products reflect Coach brand identity and contemporary relevance
  • Conduct design development scrubs with sample facilities and communicate direction alignment with New York teams
  • Handle new product creation independently or with limited support during early development stages
  • Work closely with engineering and product development managers from prototype through commercialization to ensure optimal construction, hand-feel, and drape while meeting quality and aesthetic standards
  • Support special techniques including printing, laser, embossing, and other specialized product executions
  • Identify potential product risks during development for risk assessment purposes
  • Collaborate with engineering on material and product testing to ensure compliance with Tapestry requirements
  • Monitor material availability, testing outcomes, costs, and best practices across leather, materials, components, and hardware with cross-functional partners
  • Establish quality standards and best practices with engineering teams for knowledge transfer to service partners and production teams
  • Monitor product development timelines and alert stakeholders to issues that may impact delivery
  • Visit service partner facilities to verify sample execution accuracy prior to shipment
  • Create design intent sheets for new silhouettes each season and present to service partners and production teams during handover meetings
  • Manage product cost accuracy across development milestones in partnership with cross-functional teams, including duty percentages and material waste factors
  • Review and verify product costs for different milestones with sample facilities and partners
  • Update required reports in EC-Vision system to specified deadlines
  • Manage sample invoices with service partners
  • Handle product transfer packages according to monthly transfer lists to ensure product integrity

Qualifications

  • Extensive experience in handbag design development and product creation
  • Advanced knowledge of handbag construction, materials, and manufacturing processes
  • Demonstrated expertise in material sourcing, grading, and quality assessment
  • Strong pre-design and design interpretation capabilities
  • Proficiency with EC-Vision or similar product development systems
  • Experience working with international service partners and manufacturing facilities
  • Solid understanding of product costing, material waste factors, and duty calculations
  • Familiarity with CAD specifications and design documentation
  • Experience with special techniques such as printing, laser, embossing, and other advanced product executions

Experience

">8 years of progressive experience in luxury handbag product development, including direct involvement in end-to-end product creation from concept through commercialization and involvement with both pre-loved/circular product initiatives and traditional new product development.

Education

Bachelor's degree in Fashion Design, Product Development, Materials Science, or a related discipline; advanced certification in fashion design, product development, or supply chain management is preferred.
