Tapestry seeks Senior Materials Sourcing Developer in Dongguan, China to manage leather development and supply chain coordination for Coach and Kate Spade.
Role & Responsibilities
- Track and manage all key product development milestones and special projects across both brands, including design phases, pre-launch and launch cycles, merchandise windows, runway collections, and lookbooks, ensuring on-time execution
- Oversee leather substitution processes for all Asia product development teams, monitor shipment status for sampling requests and launch shipments to suppliers, and proactively update material in-flight data to maintain production schedules
- Coordinate and support design trips for Coach and Kate Spade brands (approximately eight trips annually), managing logistics and ensuring timely follow-up on action items
- Administer color standards and color proxies in collaboration with New York leather management teams and field teams, coordinating dispatch to suppliers and retail material suppliers
- Supervise all leather testing activities for both brands with and without technical requirements, review test reports with New York leadership, and communicate test failures to field teams for corrective action
- Monitor FFP heritage brand samples and testing protocols, distributing results to New York leadership for review and approval
- Address all leather-related issues escalated by Asia product development teams and suppliers, implementing solutions to prevent recurring defects
- Facilitate rapid approval of stock leather sharing requests from product development and suppliers to ensure timely access to sampling materials
- Coordinate purchasing of leather from suppliers upon New York approval when requested by Asia product development teams
- Enhance cross-functional collaboration through leather appreciation presentations and product knowledge sessions with product development, design, suppliers, retail material suppliers, merchandise management, and related departments
- Conduct costing analysis for all exotic leather grades for both Coach and Kate Spade, providing financial insights for sourcing decisions
- Drive new leather development initiatives with Chinese tanneries to support innovation and product differentiation
Qualifications
- Extensive professional experience in leather development, including deep knowledge of material properties, specifications, and performance characteristics
- Proven expertise in milestone management, production timelines, and project coordination across global supply chains
- Demonstrated competency in leather costing, pricing analysis, and supplier negotiation
- Strong track record in leather issue identification, root-cause analysis, and corrective action implementation
- Ability to deliver compelling leather appreciation sessions and technical presentations to cross-functional leadership
- Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to build effective working relationships across product development, design, sourcing, quality, and merchandising functions
Skills
Experience
Extensive hands-on experience in leather development, material sourcing, and supply chain coordination within luxury fashion or apparel manufacturing, with proven success in managing complex cross-functional initiatives and resolving material-related challenges across multiple product lines and geographies.
Education
Bachelor's degree in materials science, textiles, fashion technology, supply chain management, or related field; or equivalent professional experience demonstrating mastery of materials development and sourcing practices.
