Tapestry (Coach & Kate Spade) seeks a Senior Manager, Data Engineer in Tokyo (Minato‑ku) to lead data platform engineering and product ownership for Japan & Korea.
Role & Responsibilities
- Design, build, operate and optimise scalable, cloud‑native data platforms and environments for Japan and Korea.
- Develop, maintain and automate robust ETL/ELT pipelines to support analytics, reporting and business operations.
- Own functional delivery and life cycle of in‑house data products, ensuring data quality, availability and business relevance.
- Define and enforce data engineering best practices, modelling standards, security principles and architecture guidelines.
- Lead CI/CD, source control and deployment processes for data services; manage development, test and production environments.
- Diagnose complex data flows, perform root‑cause analysis for data issues and implement enduring fixes.
- Collaborate with local and global engineering teams, vendors, product owners and analytics stakeholders; provide clear technical communication in English and Japanese.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 6+ years of hands‑on data engineering experience.
- Business‑level English and conversational or higher Japanese (role mixture ~80% English, 20% Japanese).
- Proven experience with cloud‑based data services and architectures (AWS/Azure/GCP) and modern data platforms such as Snowflake.
- Advanced ANSI SQL skills (DDL, DML, DCL) and strong scripting/automation ability (Python, Bash).
- Practical experience with big‑data frameworks (Spark, Hadoop, Hive, Presto, HBase, Phoenix) and workflow schedulers (Airflow or TIDAL).
- Familiarity with Git‑based source control and CI/CD tooling; experience with Infrastructure‑as‑Code principles and tools is preferred.
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering or related field preferred; relevant cloud/data certifications are a plus.

At least six years of progressive, hands‑on data engineering experience building and operating cloud‑native data platforms, automated pipelines and analytics‑ready data products; demonstrated ability to diagnose complex data issues and work across regional and offshore teams.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering or a closely related field preferred.
