Tapestry (Coach) seeks a Product Development Engineer in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam to manage sample development, pattern work and product testing.
Role & Responsibilities
- Review prototype and development samples with the Product Development (PD) team and service providers to ensure accuracy and conformance to design intent and quality standards.
- Support timely delivery of presentation and development samples by coordinating with PD, on-site engineers and suppliers.
- Resolve technical construction issues, produce mock-ups, and perform pattern revisions as required throughout development stages.
- Maintain and update the development pattern library, preserving final Master Patterns and transfer packages for suppliers.
- Prepare, clarify and distribute technical comments and development documentation to internal teams and external service providers.
- Execute product testing during the development phase and document results to inform design or construction adjustments.
- Capture and share best practices for assigned collections in collaboration with on-site engineering and supplier partners.
Qualifications
- Proven expertise in paper pattern making and pattern alteration; CAD competence is useful but not mandatory.
- Previous experience in handbag or leather‑goods manufacturing and sampling preferred.
- Strong problem‑solving ability with demonstrated creativity in resolving design and construction challenges.
- Ability and willingness to travel regionally as required to supplier sites and partner locations.
- Effective English communication skills and the ability to collaborate in a multicultural team environment.
Skills
Experience
Mid-level product development experience, typically 3–5 years working on leather goods or accessories development, with hands-on sampling and supplier collaboration. Experience across prototype review, pattern revision and product testing is expected.
Education
Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Fashion Design, Industrial/Product Design, Textile Engineering or equivalent technical/vocational training; relevant industry experience may substitute for formal qualifications.
