Kate Spade New York seeks a Product Development Assistant in Dongguan, China to support handbag and accessory development from design through production.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the product development process from early design through commercialization, coordinating all sampling phases including prototypes, line presentations, and brand activation samples
  • Support specialized product executions such as printing, laser work, and embossing in collaboration with suppliers and production teams
  • Manage liaison activities for leather, materials, components, and hardware with cross-functional teams and factories throughout the development cycle
  • Collaborate with engineering teams to enforce quality standards, inspect sample quality and execution, and establish testing protocols to identify and prevent production risks
  • Facilitate handover meetings with cross-functional stakeholders to communicate design specifications, quality considerations, special executions, and long lead-time collection details
  • Maintain accuracy of allocation and monthly transfer lists, handling transfer development assignments and updating EC-Vision system reporting to deadline
  • Conduct on-site supplier visits to verify sample correctness and compliance before shipment to headquarters

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of product development experience in handbags, wallets, or fashion accessories, or exceptional recent graduate with relevant training
  • Demonstrated knowledge of bag and fashion accessories manufacturing processes, with familiarity of fabric and leather characteristics
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)
  • Exceptional attention to detail and problem-solving mindset
  • Strong organizational, communication, negotiation, and cooperation skills
  • Ability to work effectively in collaborative, multicultural team environments

Experience
