Sephora seeks VP of External Communications in New York to lead corporate communications, media relations, and reputation management across the US with competitive $265K–$300K salary.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead Sephora US external communications strategy across earned media, corporate communications, executive communications, and reputation management
- Develop integrated communications plans supporting business priorities, key launches, and corporate initiatives that highlight brand purpose and industry impact
- Serve as trusted advisor to senior leaders and spokespeople, shaping messaging, media strategy, and external positioning
- Build and maintain strategic relationships with media outlets, industry influencers, brand leaders, and external partners to elevate brand visibility
- Identify opportunities for thought leadership, executive visibility, and industry participation that strengthen reputation and influence
- Lead, develop, and mentor a high-performing external communications team of approximately 10 professionals
- Manage agency partners and oversee the annual external communications budget for strategic resource allocation
- Oversee issues management and crisis communications planning to ensure clear, timely, and aligned responses to reputational matters
- Partner cross-functionally with marketing, legal, internal communications, HR, retail, and executive leadership to ensure messaging consistency
- Measure communications impact through media coverage, sentiment analysis, share of voice, and business outcomes to optimize strategy
Qualifications
- 15+ years of leadership experience in external communications, public relations, or related fields
- Proven expertise leading earned media strategy, executive visibility, and reputation management programs
- Demonstrated success advising senior executives in high-visibility settings
- Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with strong editorial judgment
- Experience managing complex, fast-moving issues with sound discretion and solutions-oriented approach
- Strong media relationships and deep understanding of evolving media and cultural landscape
- Exceptional organizational and time management skills for managing multiple priorities in matrixed environments
- Strategic thinker with proactive mindset and collaborative approach

Experience
15+ years of leadership experience in external communications, public relations, corporate communications, or related fields, with retail, consumer, beauty, or agency experience preferred. Strong track record of advising senior executives, managing earned media strategy, and navigating complex reputational matters in fast-moving business environments.
