Sephora is hiring a Data Scientist in Shanghai to lead full-lifecycle data science projects with AI-assisted tools and production engineering expertise.
Role & Responsibilities
- Drive the complete lifecycle of data science projects independently, encompassing business problem decomposition, data exploration, feature engineering, modeling, evaluation, deployment, and post-deployment monitoring
- Leverage AI-assisted coding tools such as Cursor, GitHub Copilot, and Claude Code to accelerate development velocity and rapidly prototype concepts
- Engineer experimental models into production-grade, scalable services with ownership of live performance and reliability
- Build and maintain robust data pipelines and machine learning workflows with emphasis on data quality assurance and reproducibility
- Partner with business, product, and engineering teams to translate data initiatives from concept through launch with minimal external dependencies
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or related quantitative discipline
- Demonstrated proficiency with AI-assisted coding tools and human-AI collaborative workflows
- Solid software engineering foundation including Git version control, unit testing, and CI/CD practices
- Experience deploying models to production environments using containerization (Docker) and model monitoring infrastructure
- Competency with data engineering stack components such as SQL, Spark, Airflow, or equivalent tools
- Mastery of Python with ability to write production-grade, maintainable code
- 5+ years of professional data science experience
- Strong foundation in machine learning algorithms and statistical modeling
- Excellent business communication skills; ability to articulate technical findings in business language

Experience
5+ years of professional data science experience, with demonstrated success in building end-to-end machine learning systems and deploying models to production environments. Hands-on experience developing proofs of concept using AI-assisted tools is essential. Track record of independently managing complex data science initiatives from problem framing through production delivery is required.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field.
