Role & Responsibilities
- Liaison with Buyers, Associate Buyers, and brand partners to gather, confirm, and manage order details including item specifics, shipping logistics, delivery schedules, and order prioritization; manage updates to buy sheets and resolve discrepancies
- Oversee offshore Merchandise Assistants' creation and transmission of purchase orders to brand partners, ensuring timely delivery and accuracy; oversee communication between teams and resolve or escalate issues
- Provide allocation direction to the Planning Allocation team and manage allocations for high-touch designer categories
- Manage communication of receipt flow changes to the offshore team and ensure purchase orders accurately reflect ship windows, order quantities, and on-order inventory
- Prepare Buyers for market by collaborating with Planners to provide comprehensive insights on historical performance, emerging trends, and customer preferences; coordinate market appointments and periodically attend New York market
- Support Buyers in style-out sessions by coordinating logistics and preparing data-driven insights to support assortment presentations
- Initiate development of strategic product assortments to drive sales and brand growth
- Act as primary point of contact for execution questions and feedback from brand partners, visual merchandising, site merchandising, stores, digital, marketing, and planning teams
- Review business performance in close collaboration with Assistant Planners; communicate bottoms-up style insights to Buyers and recommend in-season actions
- Manage markdown cadence and oversee offshore execution of price changes, returns-to-vendor, and related transactions; resolve escalated issues
- Collaborate with offshore reporting teams to generate custom buying reports; maintain structural changes to views and ensure timely delivery by offshore teams
Qualifications
- 1–2 years of experience as an Assistant Buyer, preferably in a major department store
- Strong knowledge of retail math concepts including markup, margin planning, open-to-buy, and inventory productivity measures (weeks of supply, turnover, GMROI)
- Proficiency in RFS, AMS, PCW, and NuOrder systems
- Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Sheets, Docs, and Slides
- Demonstrated ability to manage ambiguity, prioritize independently, and thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Strong problem-solving skills with ability to generate multiple approaches quickly
- Strong interpersonal and diplomatic communication skills, both verbal and written
- Proven track record of driving positive outcomes through objectives and measurable results in a large complex organization
- Openness to new perspectives and willingness to adopt evolving working practices

1–2 years as an Assistant Buyer or in a similar buying operations role, preferably within a major department store or luxury retail environment. Demonstrated success managing vendor relationships, order workflows, and inventory analytics within a complex retail organization.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor's degree in Business, Fashion Merchandising, Supply Chain Management, or related field preferred.
