Saks Global (Bergdorf Goodman) seeks an Assistant Buyer, Beauty in New York — full‑time merchandising role focused on assortment, vendor management. $59k–$79k.
Role & Responsibilities
- Support the buyer in achieving sales and gross margin targets for the beauty division.
- Manage day‑to‑day operations of the buying office, including inventory flow and monthly receipt forecasting.
- Establish and maintain vendor relationships; negotiate buying terms and end‑of‑season settlements.
- Recap and analyze selling, category and vendor performance to inform assortment and promotional decisions.
- Execute seasonal merchandise strategy based on customer needs, product performance, industry trends and analytics.
- Partner with planners to develop seasonal financial plans and budgets.
- Coordinate promotional activities and manage marketing processes, including co‑op and sample coordination with vendors and marketing.
- Collaborate with Omni/online teams to maintain product content and images.
- Attend market appointments prepared with strategic assortment plans and customer‑centric product understanding.
- Coach and develop Merchandise Assistants; oversee vendor support and store communications.
Qualifications
- Proven leadership, organization and stakeholder management skills in a fast‑paced retail environment.
- Exceptional communication and relationship management with a customer focus.
- High proficiency with Excel; Excel certification is a plus.
- Analytical mindset with the ability to translate data into assortment and financial decisions.
- Agility to perform amid change and competing priorities.
- Experience negotiating with vendors and managing commercial terms.
- Retail or service experience is preferred.
- Must live within commuting distance of New York City and be able to work onsite.
Skills
Experience
Preferably 2–4 years of buying, merchandising or merchandise planning experience within luxury or premium retail; demonstrable exposure to vendor negotiation, financial planning and inventory forecasting. Retail or customer service experience is advantageous.
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Fashion Merchandising, Retail Management or a related field preferred.

The base compensation for this position ranges from USD 59,000 to USD 79,000 per annum.
