Role & Responsibilities
- Produce high-quality altered merchandise within established time-frame and productivity standards while maintaining exceptional finish and fit.
- Perform complex fittings and alterations across a broad range of garments, including shortening sleeves at the shoulder, recutting trousers, resizing, and re-creating original looks in new sizes without compromising fit.
- Apply specialty techniques on luxury materials — leather, knits, double-face fabrics, beading and fine tailoring — and execute hand buttonholes and pattern-matching adjustments.
- Conduct customer fittings, provide expert alteration recommendations, and complete MTM (made-to-measure) forms and measurement records accurately.
- Follow all store and alterations workroom policies and Saks Fifth Avenue customer service principles to build and maintain client relationships.
- Maintain a clean, safe and organized work environment; support department and store initiatives and perform ad hoc responsibilities as required.
Qualifications
- Minimum 7 years of tailoring experience with high-end or luxury merchandise.
- Demonstrable ability to fit and alter a wide variety of garment types, including complex and specialty pieces.
- Strong technical proficiency in leather, knits, double-face fabrics, beading, fine tailoring and hand-finishing techniques such as hand buttonholes.
- Knowledge of pattern making and draping; ability to alter patterned/plaid garments while preserving alignment.
- Proven pressing and spotting skills and familiarity with fabrication and styling conventions in luxury apparel.
- Ability to work independently in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment, manage multiple tasks with limited supervision and embrace ongoing skill development.
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
