Role & Responsibilities

  • Liaise with Buyers, Associate Buyers, and brand partners to gather and confirm order details, manage updates to buy sheets, and resolve discrepancies
  • Oversee offshore Merchandise Assistants' creation and transmission of purchase orders to brand partners, ensuring timely delivery and accuracy of order details
  • Provide allocation direction to the Planning Allocation team and help manage allocations for high-touch categories
  • Manage communication of receipt flow changes and ensure purchase orders are maintained for accurate visibility of ship windows, order quantities, and on-order inventory
  • Prepare Buyers for Market by providing comprehensive insights on historical performance, emerging trends, and customer preferences
  • Support Buyer in style-out sessions including coordinating logistics and preparing insights for assortment presentation
  • Initiate the development of strategic product assortments to drive sales and brand growth
  • Act as primary point of contact on execution questions and feedback from brand partners, visual merchandising, site merchandising, stores, digital, and marketing teams
  • Constantly review business performance in collaboration with Assistant Planners and communicate style insights to Buyers
  • Manage markdown cadence and oversee offshore execution of price changes and returns
  • Collaborate with offshore reporting team to generate custom Buying reports and maintain structural changes to reporting views

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years' experience as an Assistant Buyer, preferably in a major department store
  • Strong knowledge of and ability to apply retail math concepts including markup, margin planning, open to buy, and inventory productivity measures (WOS, T/O, GMROI)
  • Proficiency in buying systems: RFS, AMS, PCW, and NuOrder
  • Excellent computer skills including Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Sheets, Docs, and Slides
  • Strong organizational skills and meticulous attention to detail
  • Ability to manage ambiguity and thrive in a fast-paced environment

Experience

Bachelor's degree preferred; equivalent professional experience in buying or merchandising may be considered.
