Saks Fifth Avenue in New York seeks an Alterations Tailor. Onsite role; hourly pay $29.48–$36.86. Provide luxury garment fittings and bespoke alterations.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Deliver expert in-person garment fittings and bespoke alterations to a discerning luxury clientele, ensuring precise fit and finish.
  • Operate and maintain all sewing-room equipment, including standard sewing, pressing and spotting tools, while following safety and quality protocols.
  • Execute a wide variety of alterations across complex fabrics and constructions—knits, leather, beading, double-face fabrics and fine tailoring—while preserving designer intent.
  • Use specialty machinery (Double-blind machine, Buttonhole machine, Cover-stitch machine, Leather sewing machine) to complete technical operations to brand standards.
  • Provide consultative guidance to customers during fittings, making professional alteration recommendations and decisions in real time.
  • Model Saks Fifth Avenue customer service principles and build lasting client relationships through attentive, discreet service.
  • Meet and exceed individual productivity and quality KPIs; document work orders and communicate turnaround times clearly to clients and store teams.
  • Maintain a clean, organized and safe workroom; follow alteration workroom policies and tailor procedures.
  • Support store and department initiatives; perform ad hoc tailoring and operational tasks as business needs require.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of professional fitting and tailoring experience with high-end or luxury merchandise.
  • Proven ability to fit and alter a broad spectrum of garments, including structured tailoring, eveningwear and leather pieces.
  • Technical expertise with specialty skills such as beading, fine tailoring and construction-specific techniques; buttonholes and couture finishes strongly preferred.
  • Proficiency using standard sewing, pressing and spotting equipment and specialty machines (Double-blind, Buttonhole, Cover-stitch, Leather).
  • Strong customer-service orientation with the ability to advise clients tactfully and maintain discretion.
  • Capacity to work onsite in a fast-paced retail tailoring environment and meet productivity expectations.

Experience
