Role & Responsibilities
- Perform alterations, resizing and restyling of merchandise to meet Saks Fifth Avenue quality standards.
- Alter seams (vented and unvented), take in shoulder blades, reduce chest, and narrow shoulders.
- Rotate and shorten sleeves; shorten back, collars and square shoulders; shorten and re-line coats; alter or remake inside and outside pockets.
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot industrial sewing and pressing equipment.
- Self-inspect completed work to ensure finish and fit meet company standards.
- Complete assigned alteration tasks as directed by Supervisor or Lead and interpret written and oral instructions accurately.
Qualifications
- Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment preferred, with exposure to varied garment styles and fabrics.
- Ability to read and comprehend instructions in English.
- Basic arithmetic skills (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and ability to measure accurately.
- Meticulous attention to detail and consistent quality of finish.

Experience
Prior experience in a tailoring operation, alterations department or industrial sewing environment is preferred; demonstrable experience altering a wide range of garments and fabrics is valued.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent preferred; formal training or certification in tailoring/sewing is an advantage.
