Role & Responsibilities
- Perform precise alterations and restyling on ready-to-wear and constructed garments to meet Saks Fifth Avenue quality standards or improve upon original construction.
- Alter seams (vented and unvented), adjust shoulders, reduce chest, narrow shoulders and perform other body-fitting modifications.
- Rotate, shorten, and adjust sleeves; shorten backs and collars; square shoulders as required.
- Shorten coats, re-line garments, and alter or reconstruct inside and outside pockets.
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot sewing and finishing equipment to ensure safe, efficient workflow.
- Self-inspect completed work to guarantee conformity with established quality standards.
- Complete alteration assignments and additional tasks as directed by Supervisor, Lead or Manager.
- Interpret and execute written and oral instructions related to alterations and garment handling.
Qualifications
- Prior experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment preferred.
- Ability to read and comprehend English to follow written and verbal instructions accurately.
- Proficiency with basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide) for measurements and alterations.
- Strong attention to detail with the ability to self-inspect and ensure high-quality finish.
- Reliable ability to operate and maintain sewing and finishing equipment safely.
Skills
Experience
Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment is preferred, with exposure to a variety of garment styles and fabric types; demonstrated ability to meet quality standards and complete assigned alteration tasks.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training or certification in tailoring/sewing preferred.
