Rubattel & Weyermann SA, part of the Swatch Group and a leading partner for dial manufacturing and surface decoration, seeks a Dial Decorator Apprentice to join their specialized workshop in La Chaux-de-Fonds. The apprentice will develop foundational expertise in the precise and delicate craft of decorating, printing, and finishing watch dials—a role demanding exacting attention to detail, refined aesthetic sensibility, and mastery of traditional and contemporary finishing techniques. Under structured mentorship, the apprentice will progressively acquire proficiency in handling fragile components, applying impeccable decorative elements, and maintaining the uncompromising quality standards inherent to Swiss watchmaking.
Role & Responsibilities
- Prepare dial surfaces by cleaning, degreasing, and conditioning prior to decoration operations
- Execute printing and impression techniques including tampon printing and screen printing according to specifications
- Apply decorative elements such as markings, logos, indices, and motifs in accordance with aesthetic and technical requirements
- Perform lacquering and varnishing operations, applying protective and decorative coatings while maintaining precise layer thickness and finish standards
- Conduct quality inspections verifying alignment, sharpness, color accuracy, lustre, and absence of defects
- Execute touch-ups and corrections to address minor printing, decoration, or finishing imperfections
- Handle delicate dial components with precision, adhering to cleanliness and manipulation protocols
- Progressively master the specialized equipment employed in printing, drying, varnishing, and quality control
- Comply with the aesthetic and technical standards established within the watchmaking industry
- Collaborate across decoration, quality control, and assembly workshops to ensure product coherence and excellence
Qualifications
- Demonstrable precision and attention to detail for working with extremely small and delicate components
- Well-developed aesthetic sensibility with appreciation for colour, texture, alignment, and finish
- Superior manual dexterity and ability to manipulate dials without marking, scratching, or deforming them
- Strong capacity to follow detailed procedures and instructions for printing, varnishing, and touch-up work
- Acute observational ability to detect defects, irregularities, and colour variations
- Commitment to team collaboration across decoration, control, and assembly departments
- Reliability and sense of responsibility in safeguarding a critical component of the finished timepiece
Skills
Experience
No prior experience required; however, demonstrated interest in artisanal crafts, attention to detail, or previous exposure to fine manufacturing is advantageous.
Education
Minimum secondary school education (or equivalent); Swiss apprenticeship contract (CFC or equivalent qualification pathway) in watchmaking or surface decoration preferred but candidates will be trained on the job.
