Role & Responsibilities
- Define, qualify and optimise surface treatment and coating processes (electroplating, PVD/DLC, chemical treatments) to meet aesthetic and functional specifications for watch components.
- Perform colorimetric measurements and analysis to ensure colour consistency and conformity to reference standards.
- Develop and maintain control plans, work instructions and process documentation for surface finishing operations.
- Monitor and control coating deposition and surface parameters using metrology equipment; interpret data and implement corrective actions.
- Lead root-cause investigations and corrective/preventive actions (8D, CAPA) for surface defects and non-conformities.
- Collaborate with production, R&D, suppliers and quality teams to transfer new finishes into series production and to qualify external coater processes.
- Calibrate and maintain measurement instruments and ensure traceability of inspection results.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives (SPC, process capability studies) to increase yield and reduce variability.
Qualifications
- Technical diploma or degree in materials science, surface engineering, chemistry, applied physics or equivalent vocational qualification.
- Proven practical knowledge of surface treatment and coating technologies (electroplating, PVD/DLC, chemical passivation) and finishing processes.
- Competency in colour measurement and interpretation of colorimetric data.
- Familiarity with quality and problem‑solving methodologies (FMEA, 8D, CAPA, SPC).
- Strong documentation skills and experience creating control plans and process specifications.
Skills
Experience
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in surface treatments, coatings or finishing control within high‑precision manufacturing (watchmaking, medical devices, aerospace or equivalent). Experience transferring processes to series production and working with external coaters is advantageous.
Education
Technical diploma or bachelor-level degree in materials science, surface engineering, chemistry or related field; vocational training in watchmaking or industrial finishing is acceptable.
