Rolex in Geneva seeks a Ceramics Methods Technician to develop and optimise ceramic manufacturing processes for precision watch components.
Role & Responsibilities
- Develop, document and optimise manufacturing processes for ceramic components (e.g., bezels, inserts) to achieve tight tolerances and surface-finish specifications.
- Plan and conduct production trials, qualify process parameters (sintering, machining, polishing) and lead first-article validation activities.
- Produce and maintain detailed process documentation: work instructions, SOPs, control plans and process capability records.
- Collaborate with R&D, quality assurance, metrology and production teams to resolve manufacturing issues and implement corrective actions using root‑cause analysis.
- Define tooling and fixturing requirements, follow up on equipment qualification and liaise with internal workshops and external suppliers for process tooling.
- Implement continuous improvement initiatives (lean methodologies, yield optimisation) and monitor key performance indicators such as Cp/Cpk and scrap rates.
- Train and coach operators on process controls, health & safety requirements and best practice for handling ceramic materials.
Qualifications
- Technical diploma or vocational qualification in materials science, ceramics technology, mechanical engineering or equivalent.
- Minimum of 3 years' practical experience in ceramics manufacturing, precision machining or production methods within horology or a comparable high‑precision industry.
- Proven experience with process qualification, production trials and generation of technical documentation.
- Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and geometric tolerancing (GD&T).
- Strong problem‑solving capability with experience in root‑cause investigation and corrective/preventive actions.
Skills
Experience
At least 3 years of hands‑on experience in ceramics production, sintering and precision machining or an equivalent role in watchmaking, medical devices, aerospace or similar high‑precision manufacturing environments.
Education
Vocational or technical diploma in materials science, ceramics technology, mechanical engineering or an equivalent qualification.
