RIMOWA seeks a Homologation Project Engineer in Cologne, Germany, to ensure regulatory compliance and product quality in luxury luggage manufacturing.
Role & Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, and control comprehensive product homologation plans for materials, components, and finished products throughout the development process
- Lead and review product risk analyses and Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) on a regular basis
- Define and update internal guidelines, product standards, and quality specifications in collaboration with the Homologation Lab
- Identify missing material, component, and product tests or devices and implement these in partnership with the Homologation Lab
- Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements including REACH, Proposition 65, and GB Standards in cooperation with internal and external consultants
- Act as key contact person between internal stakeholders, suppliers, and external laboratories, coordinating compliance-related testing and conflict resolution
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive quality records and technical documentation
- Prepare and present quality reports and performance metrics to project teams and leadership
- Facilitate quality meetings and reviews during the product development phase
- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and the Client Care Center to align on quality requirements and address client feedback
- Ensure smooth transfer to production and transfer of responsibility to the quality assurance function
- Drive continuous improvement of testing workflows, reporting procedures, and homologation processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, Industrial Technology, or a related field
- Minimum 4–5 years of practical work experience in product homologation and advanced quality planning environments
- Proven experience in quality assurance and product compliance roles within manufacturing or consumer goods industries, with focus on plastic and metal components
- In-depth knowledge of quality management systems and product development processes
- Familiarity with quality control tools and methodologies including Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify potential quality issues early in product development
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams, suppliers, and external partners
- Proficiency in documentation and technical report writing
- Fluent proficiency in English and German languages

Minimum 4–5 years of practical work experience in product homologation and advanced quality planning environments. Proven background in quality assurance and product compliance roles within manufacturing or consumer goods industries, with demonstrated expertise in plastic and metal component testing. Experience in the luggage or luxury goods sector is highly valued.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Quality Assurance, Industrial Technology, or a related field is required. A Master's degree would be advantageous.
