About Richemont
Richemont is a Swiss luxury goods group that brings together a portfolio of prestigious maisons specialising in high jewellery, watches and luxury accessories. The organisation combines deep artisanal know‑how with industrial R&D capabilities and cross‑maison technical centres to evolve traditional craft through engineering, material science and process innovation.
Richemont in Delémont seeks an R&D Intern for numerical modelling of the lost‑wax casting process for jewellery.
Role & Responsibilities
- Develop numerical models of the lost‑wax (investment) casting process addressing fluid flow, heat transfer and solidification phenomena.
- Design and run simulation studies to characterise defect formation, porosity and shrinkage during casting and identify process sensitivities.
- Collaborate with metallurgists and production engineers to define validation experiments and compare measurements with simulation outputs.
- Implement and optimise computational workflows; automate parameter studies and post‑processing for efficient iteration.
- Document methods, assumptions and results in technical reports and present findings to R&D and production stakeholders.
- Contribute to recommendations for process improvement and transfer of validated modelling approaches to production teams.
Qualifications
- Current enrolment in a Bachelor’s or Master’s programme in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Applied Physics or a closely related discipline.
- Solid understanding of heat transfer, fluid mechanics and phase‑change/solidification phenomena.
- Demonstrable experience with numerical methods for engineering problems (FEA/CFD) from coursework or project work.
- Strong analytical skills with experience in data processing and interpretation; ability to translate simulation results into manufacturing actions.
- Clear technical writing and presentation skills; ability to produce reproducible documentation of modelling workflows.
Skills
Experience
Project or internship experience in numerical simulation of manufacturing or materials processes is preferred. Prior involvement with casting, metallurgical testing or industrial R&D projects is an advantage but not mandatory for an internship-level role.
Education
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Metallurgy, Applied Physics or equivalent.
Workplace
This position is based in Delémont, Jura, Switzerland, within easy reach of Basel.
Culture
Richemont combines reverence for traditional craftsmanship with a rigorous, research-driven approach to materials and process development. Teams are typically cross‑disciplinary, pairing engineers and artisans to translate scientific insight into tangible improvements in product quality and manufacturability.
