Van Cleef & Arpels seeks a Digital Archivist in New York to manage heritage collections and digital preservation systems for a historic luxury jewelry maison.
Role & Responsibilities
- Manage and enhance the digital archives, ensuring long-term stability and security of all files
- Implement and maintain a digital preservation system to protect archival materials
- Create precise reports on digital archive volumes and assess file types and storage usage regularly
- Collaborate with the Collections Archivist to identify physical collections requiring digitization
- Oversee digitization projects, providing vendor instructions on file naming and handling protocols
- Serve as primary point of contact with digitization vendors to address technical and procedural questions
- Perform quality control checks and rename digital files as needed to ensure consistency
- Work with headquarters Archives Department to upload approved U.S. digital archives into the central database
- Create and update metadata for digital archives using established standards
- Write finding aids using controlled vocabulary thesaurus in collaboration with local and headquarters Archives teams
- Ensure preservation conditions and collection integrity are maintained throughout all archival activities
- Collaborate with headquarters Archives team on research requests and independently research areas within U.S. archives of interest to the Maison's history
- Track research requests for internal statistics and provide internal presentations on archive collections and archival methodologies
- Collect and organize digital-born documents from various Maison departments in coordination with headquarters Archives team
Qualifications
- Master's degree in Information Science, Archives and Preservation, or related field
- Minimum 5 years of professional experience in archival management, digital preservation, or similar projects
- Proficiency in reading handwritten script and cursive writing
- Physical ability to move and handle heavy boxes and materials
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office suite
- Advanced proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite
- Experience with digital asset management systems and metadata standards
- Knowledge of archival preservation principles and best practices

Experience
Minimum 5 years of professional experience in archival management, digital preservation, records management, or related heritage conservation projects. Demonstrated expertise in managing both physical and digital archival collections, overseeing digitization workflows, and implementing preservation systems is essential.
Education
Master's degree in Information Science, Archives and Preservation, Library Science with archival focus, or equivalent professional qualification in heritage conservation and documentation management.
