A. Lange & Söhne seeks an experienced Boutique Manager for its Tokyo boutique. Lead sales, team, and operations while delivering exceptional customer experience.
Role & Responsibilities
- Exceed boutique sales budgets in compliance with group procedures, legal requirements, financial guidelines, and customs regulations
- Plan and execute monthly meetings and action plans; achieve boutique KPIs defined by management
- Actively implement boutique commission systems and adhere to HQ commercial guidelines (Retail Manual)
- Maximize profitability by managing and minimizing costs including discounts, routine expenses, and third-party commissions
- Regularly analyze and review sales figures with management to refine future forecasts and ensure maximum market satisfaction
- Lead boutique team by clearly communicating objectives, responsibilities, results, brand standards, and procedures; assign, track, and communicate tasks
- Foster team belonging and pride in working for A. Lange & Söhne; organize team activities and cultivate team spirit
- Develop and coach team members' capabilities to achieve targets
- Plan to build a first-class team by sourcing, hiring, and onboarding candidates; train new staff as "Lange family" members from day one; monitor team performance and make necessary personnel decisions
- Ensure team members receive coaching through team meetings, on-the-job training, appraisals, training forecasting, task assignment, and feedback on expectations
- Ensure team access to all required information, guidelines, and novelty documentation
- Organize boutique team schedules, resolve conflicts, and ensure staff equality in working hours and opportunities
- Monitor staff appearance and behavior in line with company policy and boutique guidelines (uniform, makeup, language, grooming, accessories)
- Maintain high-level display, visual merchandising, and boutique condition per brand guidelines
- Act as the boutique's "face" and brand ambassador, building brand and boutique awareness and value internally and externally
- Maintain professional and respectful relationships with service suppliers, other maisons, landlords, and shopping mall partners
- Comply with group and brand procedures; identify issues and propose solutions to ensure flawless store operations
- Proactively manage store inventory quality, quantity, and backorders; ensure monthly, quarterly, and annual inventory accuracy and quality control
- Actively prevent inventory discrepancies through comprehensive controls
- Follow up weekly with local headquarters on inventory replenishment and active order requests
- Provide safe and clean store environment to protect employees and customers
- Comply with procedures, legal, financial, and customs regulations; manage point-of-sale register operations
- Ensure timely daily and monthly sales reporting to Brand Director and Retail Sales Manager; identify operational strengths and weaknesses and define action plans
- Define store navigation scenarios and deploy sales floor personnel; instruct and support team in delivering proper Lange sales ceremony using appropriate brand language, behavior, and tools
- Identify target prospect interests and convert boutique visitors to customers; develop specific programs to acquire high-potential new customers and manage customer lifecycle
- Maintain continuous relationships with customers as "Lange family" members; prioritize VIP customer attention and loyalty
- Use iCM to identify and propose customer strategies; obtain, enter, and update customer information; track sales staff customer-engagement tasks
- Identify current and future customer requirements by building strong relationships with prospects, existing customers, and relevant stakeholders
- Develop clear strategies encompassing sales, CRM, and prospect development targets; participate in customer events such as atelier visits
- Handle client complaints with individual care; immediately report boutique, brand, or product-related issues to local office
- Follow up and coordinate individual repairs and customer service-related matters
- Develop agile communication and strengthen cooperation with other boutique managers in the same region; eliminate unproductive territorial tensions among Lange boutiques and teams
- Participate in Lange's international retail community activities; share insights, opportunities, and best practices to enhance overall retail performance and foster supportive Lange retail culture
Qualifications
- Proven retail management experience in luxury goods, preferably in watches, jewelry, or high-end fashion
- Strong leadership capability with demonstrated ability to build, develop, and motivate high-performing teams
- Excellent sales acumen with track record of achieving or exceeding sales targets
- Superior customer relationship management and VIP clienteling skills
- Advanced proficiency in inventory management, financial controls, and point-of-sale operations
- Fluency in Japanese and English (written and spoken)
- Thorough knowledge of retail operations, visual merchandising, and store management best practices
- Familiarity with CRM systems and retail management software (iCM preferred)
- Entrepreneurial mindset with ability to identify business opportunities and drive growth
Skills
Experience
Minimum 5 years of retail management experience in the luxury sector, with demonstrated success in leading boutique or flagship store operations, managing sales teams, and exceeding performance targets. Experience in watch retail, jewelry, or high-end fashion is highly desirable.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required; bachelor's degree in business administration, retail management, or hospitality preferred.
