Purdey seeks a Gunmaker Apprentice to train in its historic London workshop, learning to manufacture bespoke guns and rifles under the guidance of craftspeople. Successful completion of training leads to formal certification by Purdey and The London Proof House. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an in-person Apprentice Open Day in London on 25 November 2026; applications close on 30 October 2026.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Learn technical knowledge and hands-on skills through structured guidance and practical workshop work, progressing from fundamental tasks to technical craftwork.
  • Contribute to quality, precision and excellence in gun and rifle manufacturing.
  • Participate in process improvement initiatives and support workshop procedures.
  • Safeguard intellectual property, tradition and product standards unique to James Purdey & Sons.
  • Maintain a safe, clean and environmentally conscious workspace, follow safety protocols and seek continuous improvements to workplace safety.

  • A good standard of secondary education or an NVQ equivalent.
  • Strong hand skills and manual dexterity, demonstrated through a practical trade test.
  • Curiosity, enthusiasm and a strong drive to develop specialist skills.
  • Reliability, punctuality and commitment to consistently delivering quality work.
  • A positive, organised, proactive and resourceful approach to practical problems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate effectively across technical and workshop teams.
