Purdey seeks an Accountant in London to manage month‑end accounts, VAT and cashflow for the heritage gunmaker.
Role & Responsibilities
- Prepare accurate month‑end and year‑to‑date management accounts, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Maintain the general ledger and perform regular bank reconciliations.
- Manage accounts payable and receivable processes, ensuring timely supplier payments and customer invoicing.
- Compile and submit VAT returns and ensure compliance with UK indirect tax legislation.
- Support payroll processing through liaison with external payroll providers and ensure correct posting of payroll journals.
- Produce cashflow forecasts and assist with budgeting and variance analysis for senior management.
- Provide documentation and support for external audits and statutory year‑end accounts.
- Identify and implement process improvements to strengthen internal controls and streamline accounting workflows.
Qualifications
- AAT qualified or part‑qualified ACCA/ACA (or equivalent) preferred.
- Demonstrable knowledge of UK VAT rules and company accounting procedures.
- Strong numeracy and attention to detail with proven accuracy in ledger work and reconciliations.
- Professional integrity, discretion and the ability to handle high‑value, confidential financial information.
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively with boutique operations and external advisors.
Skills
Experience
Minimum 2–4 years of practical accounting experience, preferably within retail, luxury goods, or manufacturing/artisanal environments, with direct responsibility for month‑end close, VAT and management reporting.
Education
AAT qualification or part‑qualified ACCA/ACA (or demonstrable equivalent accounting qualification).
