Patek Philippe is seeking an intern to manage a quality and internal mainplate manufacturing process improvement project in partnership with the workshop manager, colleagues, and support functions. The role includes reviewing workshop practices, analyzing production data, conducting Taguchi-method trials, and proposing robust production standards. This is a 6-month internship, either university-approved or undertaken as part of a Master's project.
Role & Responsibilities
- Review workshop practices to identify influential parameters in the surface-grinding process and establish the state of the art.
- Collect, analyze, and structure existing data related to mainplate manufacturing processes.
- Develop a design of experiments based on the identified parameters using the Taguchi method, conduct the necessary production trials, and analyze the results.
- Empirically quantify grinding wheel wear.
- Assess the relevance and impact of workshop practices and formulate improvement recommendations.
- Propose robust, repeatable production standards, including setup instructions and a schedule for grinding wheel dressing, to ensure the component's dimensional and aesthetic requirements, including flatness and roughness.
Qualifications
- Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Materials Science and Engineering or Microengineering.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel.
- Data analysis and project management skills.
- Ability to structure, synthesize, and add value to information from varied sources.
- Knowledge of an ERP system is an advantage.
- Rigor, precision, analytical and synthesis skills.
- Solutions-oriented mindset and ability to make recommendations.
- A university-approved internship or internship undertaken as part of a Master's project, lasting 6 months.
