Maison Margiela seeks an Assistant Store Manager in Honolulu to drive sales and profitability, develop clients and teams, and oversee store operations, merchandising, visual standards, and compliance. The role supports the Store Manager and assumes full responsibility for the store in their absence. Salary range: $75,000–$80,000, salaried exempt.
Role & Responsibilities
- Support the Store Manager in developing the store strategy and annual action plan, contributing insight on team capability, traffic patterns, and product performance.
- Track and communicate daily sales and KPIs to the team, contextualizing results and identifying actions to close performance gaps.
- Review daily and weekly business and product reports, sharing trends and recommended actions with the Store Manager.
- Monitor controllable expenses, escalate variances, participate in monthly profit and loss reviews, and help execute resulting action plans.
- Partner with the Store Manager on recruitment, including sourcing, interviewing, and onboarding store associates.
- Contribute to team development and performance management through day-to-day coaching and documented feedback in partnership with the Store Manager.
- Foster an environment that encourages engagement and learning and helps employees realize their potential.
- Train team members in their responsibilities, store business objectives, company policies and procedures, and customer-service standards.
- Assess individual strengths and development areas and share observations with the Store Manager to inform development plans.
- Ensure staff are trained in POS transactions and cash management procedures.
- Execute and follow up on the clientele program, coaching sales professionals to develop and retain long-term clients.
- Maintain high clienteling standards on the selling floor and support growth of the customer database through disciplined daily capture and follow-up.
- Ensure CRM is executed in accordance with company standards.
- Resolve customer issues within established guidelines and escalate matters beyond that scope to the Store Manager.
- Manage daily store operations, including logistics, stock flow, inventory control, and floor readiness, to keep the store operational.
- Apply Home Office store operations policies and procedures to maximize efficiency and protect business integrity.
- Maintain a clean, organized, well-kept store that supports efficient operations and a comfortable shopping experience.
- Ensure accurate POS transactions, cash handling, and banking; follow banking and accounting policies and complete opening and closing procedures to standard.
- Draft and maintain store schedules for Store Manager approval using company scheduling tools to plan productive coverage.
- Monitor floor coverage and adjust staffing in response to traffic and service needs.
- Work within store headcount and payroll budgets, alerting the Store Manager to risks before they affect the period.
- Execute merchandise standards in line with company direction and the Store Manager’s priorities.
- Monitor best-seller and slow-seller performance and report commercial needs to the Store Manager.
- Partner with the visual associate on merchandising to maximize sales and implement visual standards and guidelines, maintaining product and display presentation to standard.
- In the Store Manager’s absence, assume responsibility for store operations, team leadership, and business results; make decisions within delegated authority, escalate matters beyond it, and provide a clear handover on the manager’s return.
- Maintain a working understanding of business strategy and store sales and financial targets, and act in support of them.
Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in retail management or a related role.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
- Retail, luxury retail, or service-oriented organization experience preferred.
- Strong project management skills and ability to prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
- Flexible availability, including weekends, holidays, and early or late shifts as needed.
- A previous client book is preferred.
- Financial management experience.
- Ethical conduct and the ability to lead by example.
