Neiman Marcus (St. Louis) seeks an Alterations Associate — on-site tailoring specialist, $25.64–$32.05/hr, expert in garment alterations and sewing equipment.
Role & Responsibilities
- Perform professional alterations, resizing and restyling of retail garments to meet or exceed original construction quality standards.
- Alter seams, vents (vented and unvented), shoulders, chest, sleeves and collars; shorten coats, backs and collars; re-line coats and remake pockets as required.
- Rotate and shorten sleeves, square shoulders and execute complex structural adjustments for tailored garments.
- Operate, maintain and troubleshoot sewing and finishing equipment to ensure efficient workflow and consistent results.
- Self-inspect completed work to verify fit, finish and adherence to Neiman Marcus quality standards.
- Interpret and execute written and verbal instructions from fitters, supervisors and managers; complete assigned alteration tasks on schedule.
Qualifications
- Previous experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment preferred, with exposure to varied garment styles and fabric types.
- Ability to read and comprehend written and oral instructions in English.
- Proficiency with basic arithmetic (add, subtract, multiply, divide) and measurement units used in garment alteration.
- Manual dexterity and attention to fine detail required for high-quality garment finishes.
Skills
Experience
Previous tailoring or industrial sewing experience is preferred; exposure to a broad range of garment constructions and textiles is advantageous.
Education
High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
