Role & Responsibilities

  • Perform precise alterations, resizing and restyling of retail garments to meet or exceed the original construction quality standards.
  • Alter seams (vented and unvented), adjust shoulders and chest, rotate and shorten sleeves, and modify collars and backs as required.
  • Shorten and re-line coats, remake pockets and execute complex structural changes while preserving garment integrity.
  • Operate, maintain and troubleshoot sewing equipment and industrial machines used in the alterations process.
  • Self-inspect completed work to ensure conformity with quality standards and client expectations.
  • Complete assigned alterations tasks as directed by Supervisor, Lead or Manager and interpret written and oral instructions.
  • Support fitters by advising on fit, alterability and structural quality of merchandise.

Qualifications

  • Experience in a tailoring operation or industrial sewing environment with exposure to multiple garment styles and fabrics is preferred.
  • Ability to read and follow instructions in English and to communicate effectively with supervisors and fitters.
  • Basic numeracy: ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure used in garment alteration.
  • Proven attention to detail, manual dexterity and a commitment to high-quality workmanship.
  • Reliability in completing assigned tasks and maintaining workplace standards.

Experience

Education

High school diploma or equivalent preferred; vocational training or certification in tailoring/sewing is a plus.
