Michael Kors Japan is hiring a Retail Development Manager in Tokyo to lead new store openings across full‑price and outlet channels.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Plan, analyse and execute new store openings across full‑price and outlet channels, delivering robust feasibility studies and business cases
  • Research and evaluate potential locations and catchments to inform site selection and go/no‑go decisions
  • Negotiate commercial lease and concession terms with department stores, shopping centres and property developers
  • Lead end‑to‑end store opening projects in collaboration with construction, interior design, fixture and vendor partners to ensure timely delivery
  • Manage relocation, expansion and renovation programmes for existing stores
  • Conduct market and competitor analysis to shape strategic store rollout plans
  • Collaborate cross‑functionally with Retail, Financial Planning (FP) and Operations (OL) to align forecasts, budgets and operational readiness
  • Prepare sales forecasts, KPI projections and internal approval documentation for new store investments

Qualifications

  • Ability to work from the Tokyo office
  • Minimum 3 years of experience in retail store development or related retail property/rollout roles
  • Strong PC proficiency with demonstrated use of Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook and Teams
  • Proven negotiation and stakeholder management skills, especially with department stores and landlords (department store network preferred)
  • Strong presentation and communication skills (preferred); English proficiency is a plus

Experience

Minimum 3+ years in retail store development, project management or retail real estate; experience working with department stores, shopping centres or multi‑channel retail rollouts preferred. FP (Financial Planning) and Operations (OL) exposure is advantageous.

Education

Bachelor’s degree in Business, Real Estate, Retail Management or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
