Louis Vuitton seeks a Leather Quality Control Specialist in Florence, Italy for a permanent full-time role managing tannery inspections and material compliance for luxury leather goods.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Conduct systematic inspection of finished leathers at Italian tanneries, establishing and maintaining selection percentages whilst providing precise feedback to the Leather Centre
  • Ensure material conformance and promptly communicate any deviations from specifications
  • Define leather inspection scope and sampling percentages based on analysis of client feedback, material alerts, production quality issues, and operational concerns affecting material compliance
  • Support and develop leather selectors at Louis Vuitton sites, assisting with on-site material quality reviews
  • Conduct benchmarking reviews with external suppliers, finished product facilities, and headquarters to align quality standards
  • Execute and follow up on material quality action plans with internal and external stakeholders
  • Participate in establishing inspection criteria for new leather introductions alongside materials developers, quality teams, suppliers, and laboratories
  • For critical products, support the Leather Centre in pre-series inspection validation
  • Share validated inspection criteria with project teams and site inspectors
  • Monitor leather performance issues in cutting operations (usability, repairs, waste), alert Italian suppliers to production concerns, and guide tanned leather testing protocols
  • Participate in cross-functional quality and material performance initiatives as required in collaboration with the Quality Department
  • Provide cutting operations support when needed

Qualifications

  • Minimum 10 years of professional experience in leather or materials quality control
  • Demonstrable expertise in material science and leather properties
  • Strong knowledge of quality assurance tools and methodologies
  • Comprehensive understanding of logistics processes, tannery inspection methods, and leather selection techniques
  • Solid knowledge of leather characteristics, including manual leather cutting (preferred)
  • Proven analytical and synthesis capabilities with a rigorous, responsive approach to independent work
  • Ability to manage pressure and stress effectively
  • Demonstrated integrity and accountability in professional conduct
  • Strong communication skills and collaborative team orientation
  • Capacity to train, mentor, and provide technical support to colleagues
