Kering seeks Senior Real Estate Counsel in New York to advise on luxury retail real estate and construction matters for global brand portfolio.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Draft, negotiate and support commercial real estate transactions including retail and office leasing, amendments, terminations, subleases, assignments, estoppels, SNDAs, letters of credit and guarantees
  • Negotiate and support construction-related agreements encompassing architect agreements, general contractor agreements, supplier agreements, subcontractor agreements and lien resolution matters
  • Manage the Group's regional retail lease portfolio, addressing issues as they arise and assisting in dispute resolution with landlords, contractors and third parties including pre-litigation and pending litigation matters
  • Collaborate with the Real Estate department, Brand management, Finance, Store Planning, Procurement, Insurance, Lease Administration and other internal stakeholder groups to execute real estate strategy and provide guidance on leasing and lease interpretation
  • Monitor legal developments, statutory changes and industry standards impacting real estate; establish and maintain systems to ensure company compliance with real estate contract requirements and applicable laws
  • Develop, implement and improve processes, policies and training as needed, based on legal requirements and industry best practices
  • Develop, maintain and enhance company real estate agreement standards, template provisions and forms for general leasing, construction, architecture, vendor procurement, lien releases and related documents
  • Oversee and manage relationships with outside leasing and construction counsel, serving as liaison to internal clients
  • Provide strategic, creative and effective legal and business advice that balances legal risk against business needs and organizational goals
  • Lead by example as a trusted resource and subject matter expert, influencing stakeholders, clients and team members through demonstrated excellence

Qualifications

  • Approximately 10+ years of hands-on experience as real estate leasing counsel in a fast-paced environment with ability to handle responsibilities autonomously
  • Both external law firm and in-house experience preferred
  • Advanced legal knowledge of commercial real estate contracts and related agreements; retail experience strongly preferred
  • JD from an ABA accredited law school
  • Member in good standing in at least one State Bar, preferably New York (or ability to register as In-House Counsel in New York)
  • Strong working knowledge of and interest in the luxury retail industry desired

Experience

Approximately 10+ years of hands-on experience as real estate leasing counsel in a fast-paced environment, with demonstrated ability to manage responsibilities autonomously. Both external law firm and in-house experience is preferred, with advanced legal knowledge of commercial real estate contracts and retail leasing transactions. Prior experience operating in global and highly matrixed organizations is ideal.

Education

JD from an ABA accredited law school; member in good standing in at least one State Bar (preferably New York, or ability to register as In-House Counsel in New York).
