Hermès seeks a Technical Development Specialist for 6-month contract role overseeing fashion accessories development in Pantin.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead technical analysis of new collection designs and provide constructive feedback to development, collection, and styling teams based on previous ADM and cross-craft project experience
- Co-pilot risk assessments with the quality team, identify design and manufacturing risks, define mitigation actions, and escalate validation requirements to development teams
- Mentor and coordinate on-site engineering teams and external design studios through prototyping and development reviews (DA reviews), formalizing technical specifications and deliverables
- Anticipate feasibility studies with technical stakeholders (engineering teams, tooling experts, etc.) to secure industrialization and production phases
- Animate and coordinate all technical stakeholders (design offices, tooling suppliers, component vendors) throughout industrialization, ensuring clear communication of expectations between parties
- Guarantee delivery of technical documents including design specifications, tool drawings, digital cutting plans, assembly templates, and marking guides
- Consolidate and validate all time-study data in close collaboration with the product data coordinator
- Inspect prototype, sample, and production-run milestones, formalize control results, and accompany quality-led pre-series and first-series inspections
- Propose technical solutions, tooling innovations, and organizational improvements to achieve quality and craftsmanship standards while meeting timelines
- Support manufacturing site ramp-up by ensuring product mastery, manufacturing process control, and proper tool deployment
- Lead or participate in continuous improvement projects when required, documenting technical insights for future product developments and industrialization phases
- Inspect event pieces (press, runway, show productions) and coordinate model transfers between primary and secondary sites using established transfer matrices
- Manage inventory oversight and stock control
Qualifications
- Minimum 3 years of professional experience in leather goods craftsmanship or technical roles
- Formal training in technical disciplines (e.g., BTS Matériaux Souples/Soft Materials, or junior engineering qualification)
- Demonstrated sensitivity and curiosity regarding product quality, technical excellence, and artisanal craftsmanship
- Proven ability to manage complex projects, track timelines, and animate cross-functional planning
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with strong oral communication abilities and comfort speaking in meetings
- Strong organizational aptitude with adaptability, responsiveness, methodical approach, rigor, and analytical and synthesizing capacity
Skills
Experience
Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in leather goods production, craftwork, or technical development roles. Prior exposure to leather, textile, or precious metal manufacturing environments is advantageous.
Education
Technical qualification such as BTS Matériaux Souples (Soft Materials), or equivalent junior engineering degree; formal training in fashion design, product development, or materials science is valued.
