Hermès seeks a Metal Components Developer in Pantin, France to oversee metal hardware sourcing and development for luxury footwear.
Role & Responsibilities
- Source and design new metal components and hardware in alignment with Style direction and collection objectives, meeting predefined quality, cost, and delivery targets
- Develop and maintain comprehensive technical documentation for each component, including specifications, detailed technical drawings, finishes, lead times, quotations, and production constraints
- Initiate and analyze quality testing protocols based on internal specifications, conducting risk assessments in partnership with Industrialization and Quality teams
- Oversee prototype and sample launches, tracking deliveries throughout each development phase to ensure timely delivery of finished components
- Codify components within the PLM system according to collection schedules
- Validate metal component compatibility with finished products across all supplier and manufacturer partners through risk analysis in coordination with the Metal Components Industrializer
- Propose alternative solutions to enhance quality reliability and achieve cost targets
- Monitor development budgets covering metal components, tooling expenses, and prototype orders
- Lead and execute diversification initiatives for existing components in coordination with Procurement to address production capacity and pricing constraints
- Collaborate with Industrialization and Quality teams to implement and optimize development and industrialization processes and tools
- Identify aftermarket weaknesses with Quality to inform reverse-engineering and product optimization efforts
- Participate in risk analysis documentation and eco-design initiatives
- Conduct technological and competitive monitoring within the existing supplier ecosystem and with new potential partners
- Maintain and enhance the materials library with new research; act as a driver of innovation proposals
- Track regulatory compliance and implement new standards applicable to components
- Update and maintain technical specifications documents
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree (Bac+5) with engineering specialization or equivalent professional experience
- 4–6 years of professional experience in metal components development
- Strong technical knowledge of materials, electroplating, subtractive processes, additive processes, forming, MDP, assemblies, surface finishes, and related manufacturing techniques
- Demonstrated commitment to quality and product excellence
- Excellent analytical, observational, and synthesis capabilities
- Results-oriented, rigorous, autonomous, and responsive work style
- Exceptional interpersonal and collaboration skills
- Proactive problem-solving mindset
- Fluent in Italian
- Proficiency with computer and digital tools
Skills
Experience
4–6 years of professional experience in metal components development. Experience in luxury footwear is preferred.
Education
Bachelor's degree (Bac+5) with engineering specialization or equivalent professional experience.
