Hermès Sellier in Pierre-Bénite seeks a Leather Stitching Machinist (full-time) to perform piquage, manage threads and conduct first-line machine maintenance.
Role & Responsibilities
- Execute piquage (decorative and structural stitching) on leather goods produced by the workshop’s artisans, ensuring conformity with technical specifications and Maison standards.
- Collaborate with saddlery artisans and fellow machinists to coordinate assemblies and uphold production quality across the workshop (c. 28 artisans).
- Adapt stitching technique and settings according to leather type and model, and manage variations in stitch length and size within a single article.
- Select appropriate threads and needles for each operation and manage thread inventory.
- Perform self-quality checks on completed work and escalate non-conformities when required.
- Prepare, adjust and carry out first-line maintenance on sewing machines to ensure uninterrupted production.
- Adhere to safety instructions and ergonomic best practices at all times.
Qualifications
- Demonstrable mastery of piquage validated by professional experience on industrial sewing machines; prior experience stitching leather is strongly preferred.
- Minimum 3 years of relevant professional experience.
- Technical familiarity with sewing machine mechanics and ability to perform first-line maintenance.
- Strong manual dexterity, precision, rigour and an aesthetic sensitivity to fine workmanship.
- Good interpersonal skills and ability to work collaboratively with multiple stakeholders in the atelier.
- Organised, autonomous, service-oriented and responsive in a production environment.
Skills
Experience
Minimum 3 years of professional experience operating sewing machines in leather goods or related artisanal production; demonstrated experience with leather piquage preferred.
Education
Vocational qualification (e.g., CAP/BEP) in leather goods, saddlery, upholstery or equivalent professional experience.
Workplace
The successful candidate will be located in Pierre-Bénite, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, France, with easy access to Lyon.
