Hermès seeks a Department Manager in Amsterdam to lead boutique operations, manage retail teams, and drive sales performance in luxury fashion retail.
Role & Responsibilities
- Lead and develop team members through objective setting, coaching, and ongoing performance feedback; manage recruitment and induction of new arrivals in partnership with HR
- Drive achievement of departmental sales targets and develop business strategy to enhance department growth through analysis of performance indicators, market trends, and customer insights
- Conduct annual performance appraisals, define personal development objectives, and propose development plans to store management and HR
- Propose buying strategies for assigned departments based on performance analysis, client feedback, and market trends; present recommendations to store management
- Foster client culture within the team by supporting clienteling activities, client discovery initiatives, and loyalty-building programmes; coach team members on data accuracy and client reachability
- Plan and lead morning briefings to ensure team alignment and involvement; support the team in complex sales situations and complaint management
- Supervise floor operations, ensure proper coverage and supervision in collaboration with store management and operations team
- Collaborate with visual merchandising teams to leverage VM as a strategic tool for driving business performance and enhance end-to-end store processes
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with a focus on hospitality or fashion management
- Fluency in Dutch and English; a third language considered advantageous
- Strong career in retail management with international and luxury fashion experience
- Proficiency with Excel and IT tools
- Demonstrated leadership capability with ability to motivate and inspire teams
- Exemplary professional conduct, presentation, and adherence to procedures
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with a customer service orientation

Strong professional background in retail management, preferably with international experience within the luxury fashion sector. Proven track record of driving sales performance, leading high-performing teams, and implementing successful business strategies in a boutique or multi-location retail environment.
