Role & Responsibilities

  • Manage hierarchically the couture workshop team (collection and bespoke divisions) and coordinate with the Workshop Manager to ensure strong interdepartmental alignment between creative and production activities
  • Maintain comprehensive oversight of all models and establish tracking tools to ensure clear visibility of progress from design through completion
  • Oversee the fabrication of collection prototypes in alignment with creative direction, Hermès quality standards, and strict timeline constraints, working collaboratively with the Workshop Manager
  • Facilitate seamless information flow between collection and bespoke divisions; pilot and monitor bespoke model production and on-time delivery
  • Support the development and reinforcement of a CAO (computer-aided design) team serving both collection and bespoke operations
  • Secure accurate cost estimation for collection models to inform bespoke pricing
  • Ensure fluid communication and strong participation with development and studio departments throughout the entire product development lifecycle
  • Plan, organize, and coordinate workshop activities and resources, including production scheduling, resource allocation, and budget management
  • Manage and mentor direct reports (hiring, training, delegation, annual performance evaluations, compensation reviews) and support the Workshop Manager's leadership
  • Foster team development, motivation, and cohesion; cultivate strong relationships across Hermès divisions
  • Establish and maintain organizational systems that comply with health and safety regulations
  • Prepare annual budget proposals for staffing and operational expenses; monitor budget adherence
  • Develop and implement standardized methodologies for both collection and bespoke production workflows
  • Identify and manage external workshops to secure quality and timeline compliance for bespoke orders
  • Optimize workshop capacity and human resources by right-sizing teams to meet fluctuating demand throughout the year
  • Establish operational worksheets (gammes opératoires) by product category to ensure reliable cost calculations
  • Build agility, versatility, and cross-functional collaboration within the CAO team while maintaining clear collection and bespoke workflows

Qualifications

  • Minimum 20 years of cumulative experience in luxury apparel development and production
  • Proven expertise in haute couture garment construction with deep technical knowledge of assembly, operational planning, and cost calculation
  • Demonstrated experience in team building and hierarchical management
  • Strong technical background enabling clear understanding of garment construction, operational worksheets, and pricing methodology
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Analytical and synthetic thinking (reporting, budget tracking, production scheduling)
  • Keen product sense and aesthetic appreciation
