Hermès — Collections Conservation Assistant (apprenticeship) in Pantin: one‑year alternance supporting conservation, cataloguing and research at the Conservatoire des Créations.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Conduct cross‑collection documentary research across Hermès heritage fonds to harmonize data for specific object categories (e.g., accessories, garments).
  • Respond to ad‑hoc research requests and prepare concise research dossiers on assigned subjects or periods.
  • Undertake analytical work on a defined period or technical topic related to the collections.
  • Prepare, analyse and transcribe oral transmissions and interviews for integration into collection records.
  • Create and complete object records: identify items exhaustively using appropriate terminology and lexicons; assign reference numbers and produce descriptive entries including condition reports and provenance/pricing/location metadata.
  • Enter, normalize and integrate collected data into the dedicated documentation database (Ajaris) and other archival systems; report data across formats and repositories.

Qualifications

  • Enrolled in a degree programme specialising in history of fashion, textile history, decorative arts, art history or a closely related field.
  • Eligible for an apprenticeship (alternance) contract; available for a 12‑month placement beginning September 2026 (possible 12–18 month duration).
  • Strong team spirit with proven ability to integrate and collaborate across functions.
  • High levels of rigor, attention to detail, initiative and a commitment to quality.
  • Fluent English (spoken and written).
  • Proficiency with office software; familiarity with archival or collection databases is a strong advantage.

Experience
