Hermès seeks an Artisan Developer for its IDO division in France. Prototype mockups and technical development for leather goods and wearable tech.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Execute multiple iterations of mockups (predominantly leather, textile possible) based on creative briefs, conducting research and proposing technical solutions for object shaping
  • Identify required savoir-faire for implementing creative designs and collaborate with the Leather Goods Engineering Bureau to validate methodologies before industrialization launch
  • Define necessary steps for volumetric realization, identify required tools and manufacturing means (templates, tooling, fabrication processes), and produce 2D technical drawings or 3D models
  • Conduct preliminary risk analysis to identify construction weaknesses and serial production incompatibilities, proposing mitigation actions
  • Provide preliminary estimates of leather consumption and required time; draft technical specifications and handover documentation for contractual manufacturing partners
  • Support manufacturing sites (façonniers) throughout industrialization and production launch phases, with approximately monthly site visits across France

Qualifications

  • Mastery of leather goods artisan craftsmanship (formal training and professional maroquinerie experience)
  • Proficiency with machine stitching techniques
  • Expertise with cutting tools and material preparation for prototyping phases
  • Proficiency with office software suite; knowledge of 2D drawing tools and 3D modeling software is advantageous
  • Demonstrated curiosity, inventiveness, and creativity within experimental, design, and innovation environments
  • Initiative and capacity for constructive proposal within role responsibilities
  • Strong organizational skills, precision, rigor, and autonomous work capability
  • Adaptability, responsiveness, and tenacity balanced with collaborative spirit and active listening
