Estée Lauder Companies seeks a Tax Manager in Markham, Ontario to manage Canadian income tax, sales tax, and transfer pricing compliance and audits.
Role & Responsibilities
- Manage Canadian federal and provincial income tax audits, coordinating with tax authorities and external advisors to prepare audit responses, calculate tax position options, and negotiate settlements
- Plan and execute Canadian federal and provincial income tax compliance processes, including T2, T106, 1134b, and NR4 return filings
- Oversee quarterly and year-end tax provision calculations and prior-year return-to-provision reconciliations
- Support M&A tax integration activities and Canadian federal and provincial income tax planning initiatives
- Manage Canadian federal and provincial sales tax audits and compliance processes, including HST/GST return filings and payment coordination
- Administer Vertex software for updating Canada federal and provincial sales tax rules and managing new retail locations and pop-up events
- Monitor transfer pricing policies to ensure arm's length returns for domestic, manufacturing, and licensor businesses
- Maintain transfer pricing audit defense documentation, including segmented P&L and intercompany transaction records
- Monitor and support execution of transfer pricing changes in legislation, including OECD BEPS Pillar 2 requirements
- Prepare and manage Canadian federal income tax payments, including non-resident withholding tax obligations
- Prepare intercompany matrices for US country-by-country reporting and maintain key strategic relationships within the company
- Ensure compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley requirements and corporate tax controls across all tax functions
- Provide sales tax guidance to internal groups and coordinate with external tax advisors as needed
- Support ancillary tax functions including tax residency certificate requests, account reconciliations, property tax payments, and Statistics Canada survey coordination
Qualifications
- Demonstrated experience managing Canadian federal and provincial income tax and sales tax audits
- Proficiency in ASC 740 US GAAP accounting for income taxes
- Advanced expertise in transfer pricing subject matter for both Canadian and international tax contexts
- Mastery of SAP and Microsoft Excel for complex tax data sourcing and analysis
- Experience with Vertex software or similar sales tax compliance platforms
- Knowledge of Sarbanes-Oxley tax controls and compliance requirements
- Ability to manage and influence internal and external stakeholders, including government tax authorities and professional advisors
Skills
Experience
The successful candidate will possess a minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in corporate tax management, with substantive involvement in managing income tax and sales tax audits, tax compliance and planning, and transfer pricing analysis. Prior experience coordinating with Canadian Revenue Agency (CRA) and provincial tax authorities, managing external tax advisor relationships, and supporting M&A tax integration is strongly preferred. Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple complex tax matters simultaneously in a multinational corporate environment is essential.
Education
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related discipline. Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation (CPA CA or CPA CMA) or equivalent professional qualification is preferred. Ongoing commitment to professional development and tax continuing education requirements is expected.
