Estée Lauder Companies seeks a Modeling and Simulation Fellow to lead the development and deployment of advanced predictive modeling and simulation systems supporting packaging innovation, equipment engineering, and manufacturing processes. This role serves as the innovation steward for structural, thermal, and fluid dynamic modeling applied to cosmetic packaging and processing technologies in a highly regulated industry. The Fellow will establish a world-class technical capability ecosystem by strategically combining internal expertise with specialized external partnerships, emerging technologies, and service providers to accelerate innovation and maintain competitive advantage.

Role & Responsibilities

  • Serve as innovation steward for predictive modeling and simulation capabilities supporting packaging innovation, engineering, manufacturing, and product development
  • Drive development of novel modeling, simulation, and digital engineering approaches enabling accelerated innovation and competitive advantage
  • Lead predictive modeling and simulation activities for packaging concepts, equipment systems, and product delivery technologies, assessing technical feasibility, manufacturability, functionality, performance, quality, cost, and risk
  • Develop and validate predictive models optimizing performance, sustainability, manufacturability, and consumer experience across structural, thermal, fluid dynamic, material, and process domains
  • Establish standards, best practices, and governance for modeling and simulation activities; maintain awareness of emerging technologies including artificial intelligence, machine learning, digital twins, and cloud-based simulation
  • Develop and execute strategy leveraging optimal balance of internal expertise and external specialist capabilities; establish and manage network of best-in-class external partners
  • Assess build-versus-buy opportunities to determine most effective sourcing of modeling and simulation activities based on capability, capacity, speed, cost, and strategic value
  • Lead selection, governance, performance management, and technical oversight of external engineering and simulation providers; ensure effective integration of externally developed solutions into organizational standards
  • Drive knowledge transfer from external partners to strengthen internal capabilities and maintain long-term organizational learning
  • Lead all aspects of predictive modeling and simulation projects from concept evaluation through implementation and manufacturing deployment
  • Balance workload across internal teams and external partners to optimize capacity utilization and accelerate delivery
  • Collaborate with Marketing, Product Development, Design, R&D, Manufacturing, Material Sciences, Quality, Supply Chain, and Procurement to drive successful outcomes
  • Provide technical leadership on modeling, simulation, engineering analysis, and technology development activities across the enterprise

Qualifications

  • Minimum BS or MS degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline
  • 7+ years relevant experience in structural, thermal, and fluid dynamics analysis supporting product design and development in regulated industries (Food, Pharma, Cosmetics, or similar)
  • Experience in manufacturing of FDA-regulated products involving traceability and drug reconciliation
  • Proficiency with SolidWorks (CSWP certification preferred)
  • Demonstrated expertise with ANSYS Structures or equivalent FEA tools for static and dynamic finite element analysis, including understanding of FEM modeling parameters, boundary conditions, element types, adhesive/bonded connections, and contact analysis
  • Experience with ANSYS Fluent or equivalent fluid/thermal modeling tools for complex fluid interaction, mixing, and static/transient thermal analysis
  • Experience in material characterization methodologies
  • Demonstrated ability to develop test plans, execute, analyze, document, and present results for verification of structural, fluid dynamic, and thermal requirements
  • Experience in presenting visual renderings of technical results through animations and high-resolution imaging
  • Thorough understanding of full product development cycle from concept to mass production
  • Comprehensive understanding of manufacturing and design processes including plastic injection molding, machining, glass and plastic fabrication, and joining methods
  • Proven ability to create and manage high-performing technical capability ecosystems combining internal expertise with external resources
  • Strong business judgment regarding build-versus-buy decisions and optimal deployment of internal resources
  • Demonstrated ability to identify and adopt emerging technologies improving engineering productivity and organizational capability
  • Strong fundamental engineering skills with ability to establish first principles and governing equations
  • Technical competency in geometric analysis of 2D and 3D objects, including clearances, fit, and finish of assemblies
  • Comprehensive knowledge of materials used in equipment construction and manufacturing, including mechatronic designs, applied energy transitions, injection and extrusion molding, metal forming, and assembly processes
  • Comprehensive knowledge of machine design and construction layout of processing and packaging equipment
  • Comprehensive knowledge of test methods used to validate component and equipment performance
  • Knowledge of OSHA, code compliance, and manufacturing workflow planning

Direct experience in manufacturing FDA-regulated products with involvement in traceability and drug reconciliation. Proven track record establishing and managing technical capability ecosystems, making build-versus-buy decisions, and leading cross-functional innovation initiatives. Demonstrated expertise in deploying advanced simulation technologies and managing external partnerships with specialized engineering providers.

Education

Minimum Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or equivalent engineering discipline; Master's degree preferred.

Compensation

The base compensation for this position ranges from USD 124,200 to USD 214,450 per annum.
