Diptyque seeks a Director of Visual Merchandising to lead brand strategy across Americas retail and wholesale. NYC-based role managing VM budget, team, and installations.
Role & Responsibilities
- Define and own the regional visual merchandising strategy across retail and wholesale environments, ensuring alignment with global vision and local business priorities
- Develop a comprehensive long-term VM roadmap that sequences initiatives across product launches, seasonal animations, and key commercial moments
- Translate and adapt global visual concepts to regional store specifics while maintaining the integrity of Diptyque's distinctive visual identity
- Oversee execution of visual merchandising across all doors, including new counter installations, outposts, and seasonal updates, maintaining consistency with global guidelines
- Maintain a strong in-field presence to uphold visual excellence, support key launches, and ensure flawless execution across the region
- Partner closely with the SVP of Sales on execution planning, prioritization, and tracking of visual merchandising initiatives
- Collaborate with Retail, Wholesale, and Marketing teams to ensure visual merchandising strategy supports broader commercial and brand objectives
- Align with Global Visual Merchandising teams on concepts, launches, and guidelines while advocating for regional needs and opportunities
- Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure the effectiveness of visual merchandising initiatives and link visual execution to commercial outcomes
- Lead, coach, and develop the visual merchandising team, fostering creative excellence, strategic thinking, and accountability
- Oversee all new visual merchandising installations and rollouts, ensuring seamless coordination and high standards from concept through execution
- Manage visual merchandising budget (CAPEX and OPEX) tightly, developing, aligning with leadership, and optimizing timelines
- Maintain and nurture relationships with visual merchandising vendors known for excellence in execution and creativity
- Develop and execute visual storytelling initiatives that drive client re-engagement and rediscovery of the full product catalogue
Qualifications
- 12–15+ years of progressive experience in Visual Merchandising with significant leadership responsibility in luxury retail environments
- Proven ability to define and execute visual merchandising strategies across multi-channel environments (retail, wholesale, travel retail, corporate)
- Strong strategic thinking skills with the ability to translate creative vision into structured, actionable plans and roadmaps
- Demonstrated experience managing complex projects, including large-scale installations and rollouts across multiple locations
- Exceptional cross-functional leadership and stakeholder management skills, with proven ability to collaborate globally
- Ability to connect visual merchandising initiatives to commercial performance metrics and client experience outcomes
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and persuade at all organizational levels
- Strong design sensibility and demonstrated appreciation for French culture, art, nature, and cultural expression
- Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator, InDesign) and Microsoft Office
- Physical capability to actively manage hands-on visual merchandising execution, including fixture movement, prop placement, and installation work up to 35 pounds

Candidate should possess 12–15+ years of progressive visual merchandising experience, with at least 5–7 years in a leadership or senior strategic role within the luxury retail sector. Previous experience defining and executing visual merchandising strategies across multiple channels (retail, wholesale, travel retail) is essential. Demonstrated success in managing major installations, new store openings, and large-scale regional or multi-regional rollouts is required. A track record of collaborating with global teams, managing complex stakeholder relationships, and translating corporate strategy into regional execution is expected.
Education
