David Yurman seeks a senior technical leader to advance innovation, quality, and efficiency across jewelry product development and manufacturing in Asia. The Director provides hands-on engineering leadership, mentors the Manufacturing Excellence team, and serves as the technical authority from concept through production; the role is based in Bangkok, with substantial office and manufacturing-partner factory-floor presence.
Role & Responsibilities
- Build and maintain relationships with manufacturers and other external partners to support manufacturing initiatives.
- Work with manufacturers on factory floors to troubleshoot engineering and manufacturing challenges in real time.
- Work alongside master craftsmen to validate manufacturing methods, jewelry construction, assembly techniques, stone-setting methods, mechanisms, finishing processes, and repair techniques, and develop practical manufacturing solutions.
- Collaborate with US Product Development and Design teams to align design aesthetics, technical feasibility, and production processes.
- Lead hands-on bench evaluations of prototypes and first samples, validating construction methods, assembly sequence, setting techniques, mechanisms, finishing quality, and manufacturability before production release.
- Prototype and demonstrate advanced bench techniques, manufacturing methods, tooling concepts, and craftsmanship practices that improve product performance while preserving David Yurman’s design intent.
- Drive manufacturing excellence initiatives by optimizing processes and implementing best practices to improve quality and efficiency.
- Establish bench craftsmanship standards by demonstrating advanced jewelry fabrication, assembly, soldering, laser welding, polishing, finishing, repair, and stone-setting techniques; mentor Manufacturing Excellence engineers and manufacturing partners.
- Oversee product costing, budget management, and resource allocation to support operational efficiency.
- Evaluate prototypes with the Manufacturing Excellence team, first samples, and production samples at the bench, recommending improvements to construction, durability, manufacturability, assembly efficiency, and luxury craftsmanship.
- Ensure manufacturing partners uphold quality-control measures in compliance with David Yurman standards and regulations.
- Ensure project timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met throughout engineering and manufacturing.
- Foster creativity, excellence, and collaboration within the Manufacturing Excellence team and across functions.
- Serve as the Manufacturing Excellence bench expert, building, modifying, repairing, and validating prototypes and production samples to establish benchmark manufacturing methods.
- Work directly with model makers, setters, polishers, assemblers, and master jewelers to resolve complex product-construction challenges and improve manufacturing consistency.
- Develop reference samples and prototype modifications to demonstrate best manufacturing practices and support vendor technical training.
- Lead technical reviews of complex engineering challenges, product failures, and manufacturing issues requiring advanced engineering judgment.
- Validate new manufacturing technologies, tooling concepts, materials, and production methods before implementation across the manufacturing network.
- Support technical qualification and capability assessments of existing and prospective manufacturing partners.
- Represent Manufacturing Excellence in executive-level product reviews, communicating technical risks, mitigation plans, and manufacturing readiness.
